The Goal of the Program
The TranscriptionWriter freeware program is designed to write English words with the help of phonetic symbols.
A Set of Phonetic Rules Used for Writing the Transcription of English Words
The program includes a set of phonetic rules taken from Wikipedia.
The rules are systematized and represented together with examples of usage. Also, you will see examples of the use of different words.
You can find this set directly in the article Wikipedia Wikipedia
"English Orthography".
Keyboard of Phonetic Symbols
The keyboard is a set of phonetic symbols. You can also enter the symbols using a real keyboard.
The keyboard has two sets of symbols. You can switch between them by pressing the “Shift” key.
If you insert a set of symbols such as “()” or “//”, the input focus will be automatically set at the position between the brackets.
Using a Set of Phonetic Rules
When you enter an English word, the program chooses the first option of the transcription. There is a need for your correction, which can be simply performed by selecting the items with the correct options of the transcription.
The set is built into the program, and is available for editing.
After the first run of the program, the
EnglishOrthographyFromWikipedia.rtf file appears in the directory containing the program.
This file includes all the rules of the use of phonetic symbols embedded in the program.
In the future, this file is not overwritten after restarting the program, and you can modify the file, thereby using the current version of a set of phonetic rules.
